An in-depth guide to Executive Functioning Coaching:
Our 3-pronged approach:
Skills of Being a Student
We build external brains by using digital tools and planners to hold information so the student doesn't have to "just remember it." We utilize break-down strategies, like taking a terrifying 10-page research paper and turning it into five tiny, manageable 20-minute tasks. Lastly, we emphasize reflexive habits, such as building routines so that "checking the grading portal" becomes as automatic as brushing their teeth.
Skills of Learning
The Similarity: Both focus on “how to learn” and student independence rather than typical tutoring. The Difference: While Executive Functioning coaching focuses on logistics (getting the paper started, managing the calendar), Academic Coaching focuses on cognition (how to read a textbook effectively and how to take notes that actually help during an exam.)
Skills of Self Regulation
The Focus: Unlike Executive Functioning Coaching (skills of being a student) or Academic Coaching (skills of learning),teaching the skills of self regulation addresses the frustration and anxiety that often mask themselves as "lack of motivation" or procrastination. Our Strategy is to identify triggers—like the moment a student realizes they forgot a deadline—and replace the "fight or flight" responses that follow with functional strategies, such as digital planners and work completion routines, that help them be proactive rather than reactive.
